ON HOLD

2/12/2025 - Update

I have a vet appointment set for the middle of next week.  I will get my vaccination boosters, have my ears rechecked and get microchipped.  Following that appointment, I should be ready to find my forever home.  Other than that, there are no updates. I continue to do well and am extremely resilient.  I simply aim to please.  As long as you can give me attention, pet me, allow me to lounge on your furniture, give me treats...I am a pretty happy gal.  Everything makes me happy.  I do prefer to go potty on my walks so you will want to take me for a walk two or three times a day.  I am not a huge fan of the cold weather so maybe two walks in the winter and three walks in the spring, summer and fall would suffice.  I do love chewing on stuffed toys and bones (elk antler at this house) and I do enjoy playing with my foster brother (Golden Retriever).  So even though a second dog isn't a requirement, I actually might like having a brother or sister.  Although there is some talk that two females can have more difficulties together than having a male and a female.  I don't know though.  You will have to do your own research about that one.  My foster family will start looking through potential matches for adoption next week so stay tuned.

1/31/2025 - Update

I continue to settle into my foster home.  As I settle my foster family notices new things.  I am still a super sweetheart and doing perfectly well in the home.  I am enjoying the warmer weather and like to lay outside in the sun and roll around in the grass!

It is important for you to know that I do demonstrate a prey drive.  In the nice weather I saw a bunny on our walk.  I was so excited that I nearly pulled my foster dad's arm out of the socket when I took off after the bunny. Luckily, he had a good hold on the leash.  So, I should be tethered either on a leash or a tie out if you don't have a fence.  I will take off after bunnies at least.

I also now greet the people I love with a growl-ish sound.  It's not mean or aggressive and my whole body is wagging when I do it.  I think I do it when I am excited to see you and want you to know that I am here and want to be petted.  It threw my foster family off guard at first but now that I have done it more, they are not worried about it.  It's just my "hello" sound.

My foster family says it is important that you know as much about me as possible, so it is worth noting that I don't jump on furniture or jump into a car.  I climb.  If you have a low vehicle, it is easier for me to get into but sometimes, I need a backend boost.  If you have an SUV like my foster family, then I need to be lifted into the back and if I get into the backseat or front seat then I definitely need a backend boost.  I'm not a petite Labrador so it takes some heft to get me in.  I could probably be taught to use a ramp, but I've never tried one.  My foster family also doesn't make me sit.  I can sit and I will sit when asked but my sit is funny and awkward.  My butt is on the ground, but my back legs are straight out - sort of like the position you might see if a dog is dragging their bottom on the carpet.  The vet checked my hips and joints, but she doesn't have any concerns.  She suggested I start on a glucosamine supplement and see if that helps.

It seems I have a lot of interest and before you know it I will be ready for my new home.  Have a great weekend!

1/25/2025

My name is Midnight.  I am a young adult female black Labrador.  The vet thinks I am two or three years old because of my pearly white teeth.  I have been in foster for a couple of days now and I am settling in nicely.  I am actually proving to be a great dog.  I don't bark or jump on people.  I take my treats gently and take my time when I eat.  I live with a 2 1/2-year-old Golden Retriever, and I demonstrate polite and appropriate dog behavior.  We play nicely together but sometimes if he gets a bit too rough, I know when and how to disengage.  I have free roam of the house and never chew things that are not mine and I don't counter surf.  Really the only thing I love the most is getting petted.  If I don't think you are petting me enough, I will remind you with a nudge.  I don't care if you are male or female, I am equally happy to see everyone.  I wag my tail so hard when I see people that my foster mom is afraid I might take out an eye.

Keep watching my story as it develops.  I am on hold because I need to get up to date on all my vaccinations and I need to have an ear infection rechecked in a couple of weeks.  If I sound like a dog you might want to adopt, please submit an application.  Hope everyone is having a great week.  I know I am!
