It’s hard not to admire the outstanding presence that is Ruger – with a lovely, warm chocolate coat, chestnut eyes, and 92 pounds from soft wet nose down to kinked tail (a little character from past injuries).  He's definitely a handsome boy!

Ruger is the spirited age of 4, which includes a wonderful foundation of basic training and social understanding, blended with youthful energy and a desire to explore. He's a perfect companion for daily walks, energetic outdoor sporting activities, and rigorous play.  Ruger does well on a leash and tends to stay close and follow commands when off-leash as well.

He travels well in a car but hasn’t spent a lot of time in one, so he may be a little anxious at first. Ruger really enjoys being close to his people friends, including older children (possibly younger as well, though not yet confirmed) and also does very well with other dogs after already living with multiple kinds. No harm will come to your cats either (perhaps a chase or two though), but a pet squirrel would not be advised. :)

Ruger will soak up every bit of affection from you but gets a little scared when approached with a hug from above (or if you attempt to pick him up). Ruger can’t tell us what his life started out like to make him feel this way, but he is thrilled to step into his new, happy life!

Ruger will know when you have people food, and may beg, but also listens when you tell him "out" or "go lay down" if he becomes a pest at meal time. He peacefully enjoys his grain-free food (due to allergies), and doesn’t inhale it!

Ruger loves his humans, and won’t want to be left outside alone for long but would enjoy a yard to indulge in squirrel-watching and soak up some fresh air.

If you think you would enjoy giving Ruger his forever home and would like the pleasure of meeting him and are already approved to adopt, please contact LabMatch.  If you haven't gone through the approval process yet, please complete L.E.A.R.N.'s on-line application under the “Adoption” tab and note your interest in the comment section. Ruger will be available soon, and he can’t wait to get started on his new life!
