S top the Madness – Operation Peanut's Promise

4/2/15 Jack was neutered last week and is recovering nicely. When we first got Jack & brought him to the Vet he was anemic, & the Vet said that was due to the whipworms. Now that Jack is free of whipworms, they did another blood test to check his blood cell count, & he is no longer anemic; his red & white cell counts are normal. I also had another stool sample tested on Monday, March 30th, and it was still free of whipworms!

Jack is doing well with "sit" & "come" & is learning "paw".  At feeding time he no longer tries to eat my 2 Labs food even though he is the first one to finish.  He waits patiently until my dogs are done, and then he will drink some water.

Jack loves to go for walks but is some times cautious & timid with strangers & might bark at them as he's backing away, but he eventually warms up.  I think it would help him to go to training classes so he can see its not a big scary world out there.

As I have mentioned before, Jack does not do well being crated, it is very stressful on him. We stopped crating him when we leave the house. Now when we're not home we have Jack & our 2 Labs confined to the kitchen/family room area & he's been just fine.  The longest we've been gone is between 3 - 4 hours at a time a few times a week. He's also not crated at night, he sleeps quietly in our room with our 2 Labs.

I think he would do best with a family where someone is home most of the time with him.  Jack is so sweet & loves to play & cuddle. You would never guess he spent his first 6 months of life living outside.

3/21/15  Jack went to the Vet yesterday, and he is finally whipworm free!!  He now weighs 38.5 lbs.  When we first got him almost 10 weeks ago he was only 28 lbs.  Monday we are taking him for his shots, and then he will be scheduled for neutering.  After that Jack will be available for adoption.

Jack really did not like being crated when we left the house. He was really stressing in h is crate & starting to have accidents in it even when left for just a few hours. That was the only time he was having potty accidents. I felt so awful for him. We tried the Thunder shirt, but that did not help. So we recently started not crating him when we leave, & he has been wonderful!  (I have a spy cam on him lol)   We also have 2 other Labs & keep all 3 dogs contained to the kitchen/family room area.   So far we've only left him for about 3 hours at a time, & he's been just fine.

2/23/15  Jack went to the Vet today for another recheck for whipworms and unfortunately tested positive again.  They said it's getting better though compared to 6 weeks ago when we first brought him in.  The good news is Jack has gained 8 lbs in the 6 weeks that he's been with us, so he now weighs 36 lbs!

Jack's potty training is going well; we just have to keep an eye on him.  Jack is no longer crated at night.  He sleeps quietly in our room with us and our 2 Labs.  He does not have any potty accidents during the the night.  Sometimes h e will wake during the night and bark to let us know he has to go potty.  We still crate Jack when we leave the house which he does not like at all.  The longest he's been crated during the day has been between 3-4 hours, and he will  occasionally  have a potty accident during that time.  We are working on that.

Over the weekend we had a house full of people, around 20 people, for our sons 5th birthday, and Jack did great!  At first I think it was a little overwhelming for him... he was acting a bit nervous, but soon he relaxed, and people were saying how sweet and calm he was.

Jack saw a cat for the first time and was very interested in it.  They were nose-to-nose, and the cat just casually walked away.  I think Jack wanted go investigate, but we had him on his leash.   Jack still barks at the vacuum.

Jack is just the sweetest thing, he's so loving.  He still tries to get my 2 Labs (ages 7 & 11) to play with him, but they just won't give in.  They all run around the backyard together, but as far as wrestling together.... they are just not interested.

Jack goes back to the Vet in 3 - 4 more weeks for another whipworm check and hopefully all will be good, and then he can be neutered.  After that he will be ready for adoption.

1/26/15 Jack is doing well.  He has gained a few lbs in the 2 weeks we've had him.  He eats and drinks like he hasn't eaten in days  Emoji   He literally inhales his food and then tries to eat the other dogs food (without success).  I sometimes have to stop him from drinking too much too fast.  I feel bad because I don't want him to think he's in trouble for drinking water, but I'm afraid he'll get sick.

Jack sleeps quietly in his crate at night, which we have in our bedroom, and he does not have any potty accidents in his crate.  Potty training is going well; he has had a few accidents in the house but not daily and is getting better at letting us know when he has to go by standing by the door.  He's also learning "sit".  He walks nicely on his leash and sometimes holds his leash in his mouth and prances around like he's "walking" himself around.  He's pretty good with "come".

Even though we have plenty of dog beds around the house, we'll often find Jack cuddled up with our 2 Labs on one bed.   When we first brought Jack home, he didn't wag his tail much & had it tucked between his legs, even when petting him.  Now his tail is never tucked, and he's wags it constantly!!  He loves barking at the vacuum, he doesn't really seem afraid of it but just barks at it like he's not sure what's going on.  He goes back to the Vet on February 9th to be  rechecked for whipworm, and if all looks good we can schedule his neutering.

1/15/15 Jack visited the Vet yesterday, and she thinks he's about 6 months old.  He weighs 28 lbs.  He did test positive for whipworm, for which he took medication yesterday.  He's also anemic which the Vet said was a result of the whipworm but will clear up.  He does NOT have any Tick related diseases.

Jack was not hesitant of the stairs at all, went up and down them like a clumsy puppy.  He follows me around the house.  It's sometimes difficult to get him to go outside (I think he's afraid of being left outside again), but he will follow our other 2 Labs out to go potty.  The first day he was here he had a few potty accidents, but the 2nd day no accidents!

He loves all the dog toys, chewing on Nylabones, playing with squeaky toys & chasing balls & lets me take them out of his mouth.   He let the Vet trim his nails without a problem.  He tries getting my old ladies (foster siblings) to play with him, but they're not interested yet . .  but I know Abbey will be soon.

He's seems like a pretty typical Lab puppy to me!   He loves attention, petting, hugs, kisses, cuddles, ears & eyes rubbed.  He also loves playing with my 5 year old son.  More updates to come!
