Update...(1/14/15)

Juno is ready for adoption. After having a heat cycle in December, she will be spayed sometime in February. Juno is a relaxed, 7 year old female who is looking for a lap to lay on...preferably on the couch. She does not need much exercise, which would be great for a first time dog owner. If you are looking for an active lab, Juno is not the dog for you. She would much rather be sleeping and eating.

She currently lives with a 2 year old human female, a 3 week old human female, and a 13 year old four-legged lab mix. She is very passionate about food. She will let you know when dinner time is near. She is potty trained, up to date on her vaccinations, and loves to be around people.

If you think Juno is the right fit for your family, please give LEARN a call.

Labbie kisses...

Juno

Update…(12/7/14)

Juno was one of the older Labs in the Stop The Madness group; she was used specifically for breeding. She was brought in and given a bath, which was a huge relief for her…washing off the old life to usher in the new one. From the moment she left the bathtub, she was on the hunt for food. She knew it was around and was not afraid to seek out the treasure. She was going to everyone, receiving pets from everyone who was not with another dog. She took to the huge change very well while she was at the dog wash.

When she was brought to her foster home, she did not want to come inside. Being kept outside her entire life, this was a new experience. She had to be picked up and carried inside the house. Once inside, she was very timid and shy. She sought out a comfort zone, which happened to be a couch, and stayed there for about two days. She had to be picked up for the first 36 hours to go outside for bathroom breaks and then she did not want to come back inside. Once she was back inside, she went back to the couch. Eventually she did get off the couch and started to explore. Because she is food-driven, having her eat was no problem. We fed her goat’s milk (From Nature’s Feed in Spring Grove, IL) and started her on a better diet. She weighed 43 pounds. Based on her size, this is where she will be staying (on the scale).

Juno currently lives with a 13-year-old female lab, two cats, and a 2-year-old human sister. She gets along with everyone. She allows the 2-year-old to do anything to her. Juno is very tolerable.

For the three weeks we have had Juno, she has not been a very active lab. If allowed, she will lie on your lap, on the couch, and accept all of the love you can give her. Will you be that person?

(Special Note: Juno is in a heat cycle. She will be up for visits after she is done with her heat cycle. Juno is not on a medical hold, which means she can be adopted before she is spayed but will need to be adopted with a spay contract. This is an additional deposit that we require on all that dogs that have not been spayed or neutered at the time of adoption.) If you are interested in her, please contact L.E.A.R.N. and your information will be forwarded to the appropriate volunteer.

Juno is a 7 year old female.

11/23/14 Hello All...

It has been a week since our largest intake of labs in a single day has commenced. We wanted to update you on our foster dog, Juno, a 7year old female. From reading all of the other updates this past week, I feel like we should be having more problems than we are having. With the other younger Labs having whipworm and traces of other "not good" stuff, I am please to say that Juno is free of all things "not good"!! She went to the Vet last Tuesday and weighed in at 43.5 pounds. She was VERY timid and shy, with her tail between her legs 24/7. She would cower when you tried to pet her, and refused to leave our house...we believe because she might have been afraid she would never be brought back in.

Juno, from the description we received, said she liked to be inside the house. That may be because the owner brought her inside each time she was having the litter of pups...at least I want to convince myself of that to make it seem more palatable.

Our rule for no foster dogs on the couch went out the window for Juno. The first night we had her, the next morning she was sleeping on the couch in a little ball. When she came to the dog wash last Sunday, we found her to be food-driven. She was going around to everyone looking for a hand out. She would stand on her back legs with her front legs on your thigh, asking for food. Her weight is about perfect for her size. She may stand to gain 2 more pounds, but that shouldn't be a problem with her drive for food.

As the days went on, we saw a glimmer of hope in Juno. She was wagging her tail more, coming up to receive pets on her head without cowering, willing to go outside without having to pick her up (which is what we had to do the first two days), and coming to check on us periodically if we were in the other room. She now wants to be by our side all the time when we are outside (maybe still afraid we are going to leave her outside). She is still food-driven and lets us know when dinner time is by getting antsy. We have been adding yogurt in the morning and pumpkin at night in her food.

Juno is the sweetest dog. She allows our 2 year old daughter to go up to her and pet her. She also does well with out 13.5 year old Lab. We think they have a competition going as to who can sleep the longest during the day. She is set to be spayed the beginning of December, then she will be ready for adoption
