Hello Labbie Lovers!!! My name is Charley, and I am a 3 year old yellow Lab who is looking for a great home. Are you that family? Let me tell you about myself. I am an owner surrender, which means a family had me and could not take care of me anymore. I came into LEARN in early April and have been loving life to the fullest!! I currently live with five other foster siblings, four are four-legged and the other one is human. The dogs are fun to play with and so are the cats! As you can see, I am a great read-to dog for anyone! I do great with children; I am very tolerant of their deviant behavior. I lived with two boys (ages approx. 6-9 years old) before I came into LEARN, so rough-housing was a normal everyday occurrence for me. I am ready to be adopted any day. I am the perfect dog for anyone with children, young or old; a young family who is just starting their lives together; a family who is looking for an addition to their current pack; or first-time dog "owners." You may be wondering why it is that I am in this strange blue box. I have a condition called megaesophagus. This is where my esophagus does not push food down to my stomach when I'm standing on all four legs. If I eat like a regular dog, I might choke on my food and get pneumonia. So I have to eat in something called a Bailey Chair. This is a chair that allows me me sit upright while I'm eating my food. Gravity moves the food to my stomach and not go into my lungs, which is what will happen if I eat on my feet. As long as I eat and drink in my Bailey Chair, there is nothing wrong with me, and I will be the perfect pet. If I do not eat in my box, then problems start to happen, like aspiration or worse. I cannot have any treats or human food, because usually that is given to a dog on the go. So I have to be rewarded with praise, which is great because I love that!! If you think your family is the right fit for me, please contact LEARN. (You need to complete LEARN's on-line application found under Adoption on our website and have a Home Visit.) Do not let my Bailey Chair scare you. The only thing that is different from me than other dogs is the way I eat. THAT’S IT!! I play, run, walk, and fetch (when I want to) like any other dog. If you want to see me wiggle by butt when I wag my tail and even smile when I see you, please do not hesitate to call LEARN!! Charley A special thank you to the company of Sojos for donating food to me. (https://www.sojos.com/) You can find this special food at Nature's Feed in Spring Grove, IL.
