It's time to WHOOP IT UP!!!!! I am ready to PAW-TY with my new fam - is it you?
I am always ready to play, walk, hike or whatever interaction you want to do. If you want to play fetch, you better have 2 balls just for me to swap out, otherwise I like to play "keep away" with just one. I love to go hiking, I get all of those smells and there are so many wonderful things to eat like sticks, acorns, and walnuts - foster Mom says no, but you bet I'm sneaking them when I can - I'm a Labrador and I'm HUNGRY. Foster Mom says its because they had to curb my food to help me get into better shape. I do eat my food like a gentleman, though, instead of hoovering, so that's good.
I am definitely an instigator for play time, sometimes I am very persistent, because I believe deep down my foster fur-sibling wants to play even when she is telling me no. There comes a time when foster Mom steps in and is a party pooper and tells me to leave my foster sister alone. I'm kind of like the pestering little brother you say you don't want, but love me anyways.
I am a champ about crating, even when it's a time-out and not because the 'rents are leaving the house. I do give some signals in the morning about potty time, I start to whine a bit and may ring the bells if you aren't paying attention. I am mastering the stairs too, I'll do them by myself now, but am still a bit cautious. I jump out of the car just fine, but getting in is still a work in progress - I want to go with you, but I'm not so sure about the steps to get in, but once my butt is boosted, I get right into the travel crate just fine.
I do know sit, down, and stay but sometimes my ears aren't really hearing you, I'm young, so I still need some work on discipline. My leash manners have gotten much better, my foster Mom walks me with a Gentle Leader since she also has my fur-siblings with, but my foster Dad just walks me in my harness.
Foster Mom says that I'm not a velcro boy, but I don't want to lose you. She actually kind of sighs in relief that she doesn't have 3 dogs trying to visit while she's in the bathroom.
C'mon, let's get the paw-ty started and have some fun, fun, fun!
~~~~~~~~~~~ ARRIVAL ~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm new in town and my foster parents need to get to know me, but this is what they're telling me so far:
• I'm just under 1 y.o., neutered male and I've got the energy to prove it.
• I'm overweight by about 10lbs. My previous people still had me on puppy chow and was overfeeding me besides not exercising me.
• I am a Lab mix - some might claim I'm a silver Labrador, but nope, I'm a mix.
• I have pretty yellow eyes.
• I have some silky long hairs on each ear, but mostly just one that I'm told is reminiscent of a Golden Retriever or maybe a Flat Coated Retriever.
• I'm big and strong and need a Gentle Leader for walkies. The harness I came with isn't suitable for training leash manners.
• I wasn't properly socialized and I need to learn dog etiquette. The resident dogs have put me in my place a number of times already.
• I am potty and crate trained.
• I ride well in car, but need assistance getting in and out because I don't seem to understand and I'm afraid of steps.
• I'm afraid of stairs.
• I fetch the toy, but I don't like to drop it for you. I like to play "keep away" and these people aren't putting up with it.
• I'm a gentleman when I eat.
• I get excited easy and so I might not hear given commands - yet.
• I'd probably make a great running buddy. I need some awesome playtime a couple of times a day to wear me out so I'm a good houseguest.
• I haven't damaged anything human owned so far.
It's early days yet, and I'm now in some type of bootcamp with a warm bed, fur-siblings and foster parents that want me to be the bestest companion I can be. If you're interested, get your application in now because it takes time to go through the approval process. I won't be ready for adoption for another week or so and time's a tickin'!
