Tater update

Hi everyone, it’s me—Tater! I’ve been practicing my manners and guess what? I’m getting pretty good! I know how to wait before going outside and before eating (even though dinner smells soooo good). I’m gaining weight and mom says it’s hard to see my ribs than when I first came to LEARN. I hop right into the car and ride like a champ – I chill on the floor on in the far back and I don’t make a peep!  I don’t need to run marathons, just a walk or two a day keeps me happy. I’m still learning how to keep my cool when I see other dogs (it’s just so exciting!), but I’m working on it. I crate very nicely when my humans have to be gone for several hours. I have been known to shred things that are paper, but I do well out of the crate for short periods of time. I just chill with my 2 foster brothers. If you’re looking for a fun, loyal buddy who’s ready to love you forever… pick me, pick me! ❤️

Hello Everyone,

I’m Tater. I’m came from an unfortunate circumstance in Southern Illinois where too many dogs and not enough care landed me with L.E.A.R.N.  No one knows much about me other than I look like a Labrador mixed with something larger. I'm a big, tall boy. My age is a little bit of a mystery too. Best guess is maybe between 2 and 3 years old. I still have a little bit of “chew and destroy” that puppies often have, but it is very occasional, and I settle down very well when needed in my crate. I am a little underweight but I’m fixing that with some good solid food! Even though I am underweight, I take treats very gently and I eat like a gentleman along side my foster dog brothers, but Mom still supervises us to make sure no one gets jealous of anyone else’s food.

My foster mom said to make sure I tell everyone that I am ‘potty-trained’ and ‘crate-trained’, although I don’t need the crate very often. And I need a BIG crate. I am a very TALL boy and fit best in a XXL crate.  I get the roam of the house with my 2 foster brothers when the humans aren’t home. I play wrestle with the brother who is about my age and the older brother just supervises us. I like chew toys, tennis balls and stuffies. I am really good at letting my humans take my toys away, but I’m working on sharing with my foster dog brothers. I am pretty good at sitting, coming when called (most of the time), but man... learning to wait before eating and before running outside is the hardest one. I’m working on it.

My foster mom said I had to be honest ….. I’m really big. When I’m just standing normal, I can rest my head on the table and even the counter. I am also the perfect height for the refrigerator! That door opens and I can look right in. My mom said she is amazed that I have only counter surfed once! And that was for dog treats AND she was late feeding me. My tail is so powerful, it should come with a warning label and a liability waiver! I walk well on a leash, but I get pretty excited when I see other dogs or critters like rabbits and squirrels. So, I am working hard to pay more attention to my humans than to any distractions around me. Because of my size, I might do best in a home without small children and NO CATS. Sorry, but they just look like big rabbits and squirrels to me.

My mom says I seem to be a smart boy who can learn things pretty quickly and that means I need both physical exercise (I’d make a good jogging companion) and mental exercise (like fetch or hide the ball) or even a job! My nose is always to the ground so she thinks some scent games or training could be in my future.

If you are looking for a big loving goofball of a sweetheart, look no further! I’m your man!!
