Hi all, I’m Javy (pronounced with a H) a 6 year old black lab mix with a little white on my chest, stomach and chin. I’m a little bit smaller, weighing in at around 60 lbs. I came to my foster home through a shelter to which I had been surrendered by the only other family I have known. I’m really happy to be back to the comfy life of couches, beds and lots of cuddles and love. Foster mom is happy I do my duty outside, although she hasn’t figured out my signal yet to go out. We’re working on a bell system, but I have all kinds of wildlife to watch from the back door so I’m there a lot. Makes the bell training a little confusing for foster mom. Do I need to potty or do I just want to go out and check out the wildlife?? I do great on the long lead outside too, since there is no fence. I’m pretty relaxed/chill, but do need some exercise/play everyday. Foster mom takes me for a walk every day which can be challenging for her since I smell so many new things and tend to pull her some. We are working on that. Foster mom uses a harness or the gentle leader and keeps me on a shorter lead. Foster mom has also had me on a long lead and threw a ball or stick for me, which I run after enthusiastically, but don’t really know what to do with it once I get it. Maybe I’ll figure it out someday? She also has these silly squeaky things for inside the house, I really don’t know what she expected me to do with those! I know the basic commands, sit, stay/wait, lay/settle, down, paw, outside and come. I listen best when she says my name first, then the command. Of course, I do have my moments! I try to get away with counter and table surfing, but have been unsuccessful so far. Foster mom corrects me with “Javy down” and I listen and stay down, at least for that try. Foster mom is teaching me to “stay out of the kitchen” and I am getting the hang of it. I also jump up when I am excited and can be quite mouthy at times especially when foster mom is doing something I don’t like, such as putting on my gentle leader or harness. I’m working really hard to get better. Hello everyone! I’m Javy (pronounced with a "H"), a 6-year-old black lab mix with a little white on my chest, stomach, and chin. Foster mom has explained that her house is just a temporary stop on my journey to my forever home, and she thinks it’s time for me to find it. I have lots of love to give. Who’s willing to receive it?
