*****************ON HOLD******************

Kinzie is a beautiful two year old, 68 pound, purebred chocolate Labby. She was rescued from a breeder along with her littermate and another older female Lab. She is quite unsocialized and terrified of new people, but in the four days we've had her, she has made great strides. She follows her foster mom and dad everywhere, although she seems to prefer her foster dad. She is afraid of touch but will allow it, and she has discovered the joy of a good massage. Remarkably, her blood and fecal tests came back negative for parasites and heartworm, which is great news. She will be getting spayed soon, and we will continue to give her the love she was denied, and delight in her becoming a happy dog. She is on hold for the time being while we get to know more about her personality.

*****************UPDATE**********************

We've had Kinzie for four weeks now and she is doing remarkably well. She is scheduled for her spay surgery on 11/3. She has really come out of her shell and enjoys going outside in the yard for a quick romp with our dog. She is very affectionate in the morning when we all wake up, and enjoys getting some cuddles from us. We also get a very happy tail wag, which she didn't do for the first couple of weeks. She's also beginning to really eat like a Lab and knows exactly what the refrigerator has hidden inside. Cheese! I can't say she is 100% housebroken, but she has been perfect for almost three weeks. She has been fine left uncrated and restricted to our kitchen and sun room with our male lab for a couple of hours at a time. She was not destructive and was quiet while we were gone. She still has some issues with walks. We live in a very urban neighborhood in Chicago and the noise is very upsetting to her. She wants to go for walks and gets really excited, but once she's out on the sidewalk she starts to get nervous if there are loud noises she doesn't expect. We took her to our farm, and she just LOVED it. I think once she becomes more acclimated to the city she will be much better, but she may be a country girl at heart. We'll keep you posted on her progress, but right now we're very proud of how she has come through a very rough start in life.

******************UPDATE******************************

Well, Kinzie is doing remarkably well. She made the big leap to the dog park. Something I never thought I would see. I had been taking her in the car, and letting her hear the noise of the dogs and the train, and then a few days ago, our two Labby friends were the only dogs in the park, so I decided to take a chance and she LOVED it. She ignores all the other dogs there and just makes sure she has her foster brother Keaton in her sites at all times. I kept a leash on her the first few times we went just in case, but even with all the noise and commotion, she was having a ball. Running and playing with a ball in her mouth. Now, she jumps in the car before Keaton has a chance, also new, and looks forward to the next adventure. I can't believe this is the same dog as the one back in October. She still has her quirks. Still flinches when she is not expecting a touch. Still cowers when we are putting on her harness, even though she is very excited as soon as it's buckled. Still pulls like crazy after the second half of our walk, I assume to get back home. Still runs up or down the stairs if there is any loud bang, or something drops on the floor, but she gets better every day. We're looking forward to taking her to the farm again, her happy place, but she is adjusting pretty well to city life too! Who would have thought? Happy Holidays from Kinzie!!
