Hey all!

Buddy checking in. Actually, I’m wondering what I’m still doing here and why I haven’t found my perfect person yet? I know I’ve got a few “must haves” for my forever home, but there has to be SOMEONE out there that checks all those boxes, right?? I mean, it’s nothing super hard or anything.

So you ask, what do I need?

~ Another dog…that’s a must. You see, I’m still a bit fearful of my surroundings (but I’m improving everyday) and I like to have someone who I can watch and follow their lead. I always hear “an only dog is a lonely dog”, so maybe your ready to add another dog to your family??

~ A fenced in yard. Because of my fears, you will want to make sure I don’t get spooked at something outside and run away.

~ No young kids…their quick movements just scare me. Maybe kids 12 and older would be ok, as long as they understand me?

That’s not too bad, right? Maybe you're wondering why all the fuss? Well, you see… I was neglected. I was found in a home by an animal control officer who didn’t even want to enter the house because of the condition of the house. I could go on, but I’m sure you get the gist. Besides…. I’m working REALLY hard to put all that behind me. I’m a bit shy, but I’m learning to trust that humans will take care of me, and I think I’d be a great companion for someone who is looking for quiet companionship. I do like toys and have learned to fetch, and I love the water and I know how to sit. I’m just an easy going dog, that needs a special someone that will understand my quirks and give me the patience to warm up to you.

I’m told the holidays are coming and the one wish I have is to find a forever home of my own. If you think that might be you, please contact L.E.A.R.N. at learndogs@labadoption.org

10/12/21  Hi it's Buddy checking in.  Guess what?  I learned that if I sit nicely I get yummy treats! We went "Up North" to see the pretty leaves and I really liked hiking, climbing and wading into the creek.  My Foster Sister really likes to explore and have fun so I just follow her.  I got to sleep in the big bed with everyone and I even did all the stairs to get to our room.  I am still waiting patiently to meet my forever family.  I know I might be a bit of work but Foster Mom says I am such a good boy so maybe you would like to find this out for yourself.

9/21/21  Buddy checking in again! Foster Mom wanted me to let you all know I turned a corner this past week. I didn't go anywhere so I'm not sure she knows what she's talking about. But I want to tell you how much I now enjoy the backyard. I discovered I can run all over. And I finally understand why my foster sister chases the ball around. It's fun! There's lots of good smells and the wind on my face is pretty nice. Oh, and Mom is happy because I now walk into the yard, on my own, to do my business. Mom said all I need to do now is learn to sit! I'm still looking for my perfect forever family, and foster mom says she thinks it would be best to have another young dog like me around so I can continue to gain confidance from them. And a fenced yard would be awesome, now that I'm learning to love the outdoors.

If you think you'd be a good fit, would love a handsome man (ME!) in your life, and have already been approved, please let labmatch@labadoption.org know.
If you haven't been approved yet, but might be a perfect fit for me, what are you waiting for? Apply now!!

Buddy here, Foster Mom thinks I have made enough progress that I can start looking for my forever home!  I am still a work in progress so my adopters will have to be very patient and continue to work with me.  I'm getting better outside but anything out of the ordinary or any sudden sound sends me running with my tail between my legs.  I can't help it - it can just be so over-whelming at times.  I am pretty comfortable in the house - but the bed is my favorite spot.  I really need another dog about my age to keep me company.  I just love them so much.  Playing with my foster sister is my favorite thing to do.  And I feel much braver when she's by my side.  A fenced yard would be great since I am starting to explore, and I really like to run free, but I am so easily scared.  And I really need someone who can spend a lot of time with me - see I still need to be crated when you aren't home.  Mom says I have already spent enough of my life confined so I would really prefer someone who is home more often than not.  If you have an endless supply of dog toys and want to learn more about me just send an email.  I'll be waiting!

8/11/21  ON HOLD

Buddy is still learning to be a Lab and making small strides each day.  He loves toys and likes to hoard them in his crate - and sometimes anything else he finds on the floor or table!  He is now very interested in playing with my dog.  This is the only time I have seen his tail wag.  He would even play with the cats - he just hasn't figured out how to do it yet.  He has decided his new safe spot is on my bed and takes advantage of every opportunity to jump up there.  He took his first camping trip and did pretty good.  He preferred to stay in the camper but was very well behaved and relaxed.  He is a true Lab in that he loved the water and had no hesitation getting in - even with waves.  He does well on hikes.  In general, any noise or sudden movement scares him so I am continuing to expose him to more things to help him overcome those fears. Potty training is still a work in progress.

7/22/21  ON HOLD

Buddy is a very handsome 4 (ish) year old yellow Lab that has no idea how fun it is to be a dog!  He was rescued from a neglectful home where it appears he never got to go outside.  Because of this he is fearful of the great outdoors.  He has a safe spot in the house where he spends most of his time.  He willingly goes into the crate.  And he is happy to eat at mealtime.  After 10 days of being with us he is starting to show some interest in toys and playing with my resident dog - all while sitting in his safe spot next to my couch.  Potty training is going ok - only a few accidents in the crate.  He does hold it all night so I am encouraged that as soon as the outside isn't so scary there will be no more accidents.  Buddy has a ways to go before he will be ready for adoption - and we will be taking it slow at his pace.
