8/6/21 Astra checking in! Foster mom says I'm pretty laid back for a 6 month old pup. I like to play with other dogs, but I'm not at all dominant and I love a good walk too. I love this place called a dog park and all the people I meet there. I am pretty good about not jumping on humans, but I guess I'm still a work in progress with strangers if I'm not on a leash. As for the dogs at the park, I love to play with them, but I also know to leave them alone if they don't like it. I'm cool waiting for the dogs that do want to play.

Foster mom says my recall and basic commands are getting better everyday. I get to hang out in the house with foster mom while she works, and since I have a routine, I haven't had any accidents in the house since the beginning of July. And I have always kept my crate clean!

Foster mom thinks she sees more of the Labbie in me when I'm sleeping and my ears are relaxed. She also thinks I'm going to be a petite girl when I'm fully grown.

I just can't figure out why I'm still here? Foster mom says I'm perfect and deserve a perfect forever home... Could that be you?

7/20/21 Made some good progress. She is excellent with the crate. More than willing to go for 2 mile walks. No accidents in almost 2 weeks. She has mastered "sit" - "down", "stay", and "up" are almost there. She is food motivated.

Dogs that are twice her size makes her hesitate. She wants to greet everyone she sees on walks.

A lot of the typical puppy issues have tapered way back. She isn't trying to chew furniture or carpet anymore. She will garbage dive if you leave it out - this will probably be an ongoing thing, some dogs are like that. Leash training is still a work in progress, but she isn't horrible.

Astra is NOT a high energy pup, but she DOES need a regular outlet for exercise daily or you will have problems - this is typical of the majority of dogs. She is NOT a needy dog - she will happily occupy herself with toys and antlers, but if there is another dog present getting attention from humans, she will butt in.

We believe she will top out at about 50-55lbs.

7/11/21 Astra will chase the critters and birds. We are starting some basic training - she does know her name, but doesn't always respond at this point. She is completely crate trained and knows to go into her crate for meal times, and with a treat in hand, that she knows you've got, will go to the crate on the "kennel" command.

She often likes to cuddle with another dog if she can. She is more than willing to rough-house and play chase with another dog if they are game for it.

Astra is a 5 month old, spayed, female, Lab mix - we believe she has Anatolian Shepard in her due to double dew claws and may have some Boxer due to a small under-bite. Astra is a Texas pup that arrived with 2 litter mates. One of her litter mates was lost due to Parvo back in Texas - she and the others were quarantined, tested, and cleared. As of today she has had her last round of vaccinations.

Astra's house training is coming along nicely - she hasn't messed her crate once, and that is where she sleeps at night - all night. Otherwise, we crate her when no one is home. Her interactions with other dogs has been quite good, she likes to greet with typical puppy behavior, but has recognized that when the resident geriatric Lab didn't want to play, she didn't harass her. The other resident Lab is playing with her daily and as you can see from a photo that she is fine with Astra cuddling with her.

Astra has typical puppy behaviors of wanting socks and shoes, but listens pretty well with a negative noise and being given something else. Of course, puppies want to test everything in their mouth, and she really likes to get her fiber with sticks and tree bark, which I don't let her keep. Astra behaves like a typical puppy, but she isn't energy charged like a typical puppy. She will happily occupy herself for a half hour at a time with toys and chews.

On walks we have a small harness on her and are working on leash manners. So far when strangers approach she hangs back and watches the approach, but at the Vet's office she was all for the TLC. If you are willing to cuddle her, she is willing to let you.

All in all, she has been a pretty good house-guest for a puppy.
