Ruger is a 5 year old Labrador Retriever. He came to L.E.A.R.N. from the Wausau Humane Society where he was surrendered by a family who didn’t have enough space after a move. Despite having some recent big changes in his life he is very friendly and trusting.

Other than needing to drop a few pounds he has no known health issues. He has great energy for playing fetch, going on a hike and loves water. He is pretty good on the leash but is still working on some manners to not pull when tiny humans are running ahead of him.

He has been with his foster family for a short time and we are still getting to know him. He prefers to be outside with people and not left alone. He is very strong and could break off his tie-out. But when he is outside with people he listens pretty well – even serves as a personal escort for kids on their bikes, trotting along side.

He is very good with kids, aside from sometimes not knowing how big he is. He listens to commands from kids and likes to play with them. He is very respectful when getting his food and always waits for the “ok” command before eating. He is working on kitchen manners to make sure he doesn’t beg during mealtime.

His foster family does have cats but they haven’t become friends yet, despite Ruger’s best attempts. He does get excited when he sees other dogs but has not shown aggression, just excitement.

While he gets to know his foster family he has been pretty spoiled with plenty of outside time, walks and dog ice cream treats.
