4-26-20 Update
Hi everyone! I have some good news. I’m ready to find my forever family! My foster parents have gotten to know me better. I can be a little skittish. Sometimes noises outside can scare me. New people can make me nervous at first but it doesn’t take long for me to be their friend. My foster mom says I’m a quiet boy because she hasn’t heard me bark yet. I get to sleep in the bedroom on my own dog bed at night and I’ve been very good. I’m still working on my leash manners and some other commands like off (because I like to jump when I’m excited) and stay. I’m pretty good at coming when they call my name. I don’t try to go on the furniture except when my foster mom is sitting in the recliner. I like to sit on her lap and snuggle!
Now for the medical update. The nice people at L.E.A.R.N. took me to see an orthopedic specialist to get my hips checked out. The doctor said I have mild hip dysplasia but no signs of arthritis. The best thing for me is to continue taking glucosamine and fish oil. Low impact exercise, like walking and swimming, and keeping my weight down will help too. It’s a good thing I like fresh fruits and vegetables for snacks because that will help. The vet wrote everything down so I can share it with my new family. He also said I’m a handsome boy and was a very good patient!
4-14-20 *** On Hold *** Hi, I’m Charley! I was taken to a Humane Society in Illinois as a stray. I’ve only been living with my L.E.A.R.N. foster family for a few days, so we still need more time to get to know each other before I’m ready for adoption. My foster family says that I’m a sweet boy who likes to snuggle! Probably 2 to 3 yrs old and high energy! I know sit, shake & down. My foster mom says that we definitely need to work on my leash manners! I love running and chasing the tennis ball with my foster sister who is a lab too! The veterinarians in Illinois took good care of me before I came to L.E.A.R.N. They made sure I was up to date on everything. One of them even took a X-ray of my hips. She said my sockets are a little shallow but there are no signs of arthritis and there was no pain when she examined my hips. Whatever it is, it sure hasn’t slowed me down! She recommended that I take glucosamine everyday so that’s what I’m doing. I guess the folks at L.E.A.R.N said I’ll be going to see a new vet soon, just to get a second opinion.
