UPDATE

Just thought I'd let all of you know that I'm doing well.  Still being treated for heartworm.  So, I won't have a forever home for Christmas, but I'm planning on having one in the near future.  At least my tail healed, and I no longer have to wear that silly donut.  My foster mom says that I'm improving every day as far as being excitable.  I now let her give me belly rubs (never knew they felt so good).  I still need a lot of work with the leash though.  My foster mom can't walk me because she can't hold onto me.  She doesn't have as much strength as I do, and she's old, LOL!  Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays to all.

Hello All, Dakota here! I'm sort of a petite chocolate female weighing in at 69 lbs.  As you can see by my pictures, I'm a beauty.  I came from a shelter in Southern IL.  I'm heartworm positive.  My previous owner wanted to have me euthanized because he didn't want to treat my heartworm.  That's where L.E.A.R.N. stepped in.  I was transported to Northern IL where my foster mom met me and took me to her home.  I'll be here until I am heartworm negative.

I'm a sweet girl but get very excited when I meet people.  Hard to keep me from wagging my tail and hitting against things. Every time I get excited my tail wags and hits things and then the sore opens up again.  So now, I wear a donut around my neck because I have a sore on my tail.  My foster mom is trying to get my tail healed along with treating me for the heartworm.  I'm suppose to stay quiet, but it's hard when company comes over.

I ride well in the car but get a little anxious at times.  I do know basic commands but need training on a leash.  I pull very hard because I'm very strong.  I'm totally house trained and don't need to be crated.  My foster mom put me in a crate the first night, and I hated it.  When she went away she crated me, and I cried a lot.  She decided to let me out during the night and while she's away, and I do just fine.

I will be on MEDICAL HOLD until I am heartworm negative, but if  you would like to help with the cost of my treatment, I'd really, really appreciate it! Thanks!
