9/12/18 Harley has now had 2 negative fecal checks which is great!  Now we can start looking for his forever family. :-)

Harley has learned during wrestling with another dog not to pull at ears, so he is getting play sessions daily with his foster siblings. He is also getting better during his foster sibling's fetch sessions, but I still hold him back a second during most runs. Due to his better dog manners, he is now allowed by his foster sibling to share a blanket and cuddle.

Harley's recall really is pretty good, and during games of fetch with his foster siblings, he is allowed to run free. We will start taking him to the dog park now that he has had the 2 negative fecal checks and will see how good he is there.

Harley is eager to please and is food-motivated. He has responded well to the negative sound to things he shouldn't do and hasn't repeated the error in house manners. Leash walking is still a work in progress – when it's just the family on a walk he is good.  However, when there are other people and dogs, he starts to pull –  food should help modify that. He likes to check out the newbies and then immediately comes back to you.

We have found that Harley needs to be crated during car rides, otherwise he tries to get into the front with you even though his foster siblings are with him in the back. He knows the command "kennel" and goes in without a problem. Harley will also dash out the door unless you tell him specifically to sit and stay - he just really wants to be with you.

Overall, Harley has been an easy foster.  He isn't dominant -  he is easy going. Please look at the videos to see how his play interaction is with another dog.

Harley is still on the thin side.  So he continues to get extra food, but you can't see his ribs and hips like you could when he first arrived. The extra food will continue until he gains at least another 5lbs.

8/29/18 Harley has gained 4.7lbs since his last weigh in, and he is looking better but still thin.

As Harley has gotten more comfortable, he has more interest in toys. He likes taking all of the toys out of the toy box and then only playing with one. He has absolutely no interest in playing fetch, but he is highly interested in racing next to dogs who are playing fetch and grabbing at their necks - in other words he's a butt. :-0 To resolve the issue, I hold him back for a second so the other dogs get a head start and then throw the ball - This makes it so he isn't impeding them and being a pest. Harley's playing technique with other dogs is grabby with his mouth, and really I think he is pulling too hard for my girls. They correct him, but he still does it. If your resident dog is rough and tumble, then everything will probably be fine. For the most part Harley is respectful, but when he gets his play on, he gets vigorous.

Harley very much likes to know where everyone is in the house.  So he doesn't disappear from where the people are. Harley has learned to sit and wait for his food, so his patience is coming along. Leash walking is a work in progress.

Unfortunately due to the whip worms, I am unable to take him to a dog park. However, he did have a pow-wow with a lot of other dogs recently and did really well - he mostly stuck with his foster siblings and ran around like a loon but came when called.

In the video I posted, that is the nicest Harley has played with one of my girls.  So he does have a sweet play side.

8/8/18 Harley is 2-1/2 y.o. owner surrender due to excessive work hours and financial difficulty. As you can see he is about 20lbs. underweight, and he tested positive for whip worms. We believe the weight loss is due to both the whip worms and pining for his owner. Harley won't be available for adoption until the whip worms have been cleared up, which will be about 2 months.

The Vet believes he has Black & Tan Coonhound in his lineage due to his longer ears, slight curl to his whip like tail, and the brown fur on his legs.

Harley is an exuberant young adult. He knows his basic commands but needs work on his patience and leash walking. He was raised with cats and kids and doesn't have a mean bone in his body but would probably knock over a little one. He gets especially excited at dinner time. He takes correction from other dogs well and isn't over-bearing. He absolutely loves to be with people.

Harley takes to the crate very well, and in fact we were warned he gets destructive if left alone unsupervised.  So he is crated whenever we leave the house. When we are home he gets free roam and doesn't get into trouble but he likes to keep track of where everyone is. He's pretty good about staying back when you are eating, but he does like to be in the kitchen when you are doing food prep.

So far he really hasn't shown any interest in toys. He'll pick one up and play with it for about a minute. During fetch sessions with his foster siblings he is more interested in running with them than getting the ball.

Harley is definitely quick with the lick which is how he shows his appreciation for attention. His recall is pretty good for his age, but I think that's because he doesn't want to lose his people.
