Labs We've Loved and Lost

Mindy

"You think dogs will not be in heaven? I tell you, they will be there long before any of us."
— Robert Louis Stevenson

I remember the day we picked up Mindy, there were 2 female yellow labs left in the litter, and of course they were adorable. We initially picked out Mindy's sister, but I noticed she had a limp and the owner informed us that she had gotten hurt (I can't remember how anymore). I thought to myself, do I want to incur possible vet bills right away? So we picked up Mindy and never looked back, even after being told she had congenital kidney disease... if I had to do it over again... I still would have picked Mindy!

Because she was our girl, our Mindy, our wiggly butt, happy, happy girl, through it all she was happy. Through the constant thirst, the throwing up, and upset stomachs, the not having an appetite and being very tired... she was a loving, happy girl.

Kidney disease is an evil thing, making our beautiful girl sick for weeks, then she would rally and feel better... and give us hope.

When she turned 5 years old last January, we thought what do we have here a miracle dog, We really wanted that to be true….but it was not to be, and on December 1 2006 we lost our beautiful girl.

You know Mindy never growled… not once in her whole 5 1/2 years... not at anything or anybody….she didn't have it in her. We do count ourselves lucky to have had her in our lives for 5 1/2 years (the vet who diagnosed her said she would probably only survive 2-4 years). Thank you Mindy for being you, we miss you every day, and when I get extremely sad I read the quote above from Robert Louis Stevenson, because there is no other place Mindy could be except heaven.
