Labs We've Loved and Lost

Harley

Harley was an extraordinary yellow lab who was not adopted from LEARN but his dog sister, Hilde, was. So, we consider Harley a member of the LEARN family. Harley was diagnosed with epilepsy when he was just over a year old. We battled the disease for 5 years before it took him away from us on Sept. 3, 2004.

Battling epilepsy was a full time job. Our lives were consumed with Harley's medication schedule, monthly vet visits, sleepless nights sitting up with him during his seizures and several middle of the night visits to the emergency vet clinic. After Harley passed away, many of our friends and family told us that few people would have put up with dealing with an epileptic dog so Harley was very lucky to have us. Really though, Harley gave us more than we could have ever given him.

There are no words to express the love and happiness Harley brought to our lives the short time he was here. He was an exceptional dog who loved every person and animal he met. His courage and gentle spirit will never be forgotten.

Harley was loved and is sadly missed by Scott and Carrie Veldhuizen and his doggie sisters, Hanna and Hilde.
