Gus

He was such a great dog - who so deserved to live out the rest of his days in a happy place - which he certainly did.

Emmerson, renamed Gus, was an over weight, happy go lucky, mischievous, teddy bear who was lucky enough to find a home with an incredible couple and their dog Sam. He was adopted by the Sturm family on 10/21/04. Shortly after he was adopted from LEARN, a cantaloupe size tumor was found and removed from his stomach. Thankfully it was not cancer and he recovered very nicely.

Even with his size he always found away to get to any food that he could. We quickly found out why he weighed 110 lbs. To share a couple of his funny stories (there are many more), which we now kindly refer to as "Gusisms." While he was being fostered by us he somehow got himself up to reach the middle of the dining room table and ate an entire bag of Twizzlers - left the now empty bag on the floor as evidence. The "Gusisms" continued not only at our house but with his new family too.

It's unknown why Gus passed away, he hadn't seemed to be sick or uncomfortable at all. They enjoyed a great day together as a family and that night he laid down in one of his favorite spots. When they got up to let the dogs out for the last potty break of the night he didn't get up. He hadn't made a peep, and had passed away very peacefully.  They kept him at the house for the night, just lying with him, talking to him, and remembering all fun times and "Gusisms" they'd had. Unfortunately his new family only got to enjoy him for 4 short months, though they said "with the effect he had on our family you would have thought he's been here forever." He was such a great dog - who so deserved to live out the rest of his days in a happy place - which he certainly did.
