Tucker
|
All righty then, Tucker the pup here. Thought you good people might appreciate knowing how I'm doin' in my new home. That is, jussssst fine! These folks are quality folks...a little strange once and awhile, but on balance pretty good. They set a pretty good dog dish and as you can see, I'm still a growing puppy! I tip the scales at a svelte 92 pounds now. They think I'll hit a hundred before I'm done! There's a nice yard and a patio door where I can bark at the squirrels and birds. Sometimes I even get to go our into the yard and chase them too. They did fence the yard so I wouldn't bother the neighbors, but they take me for lots of walks so that's not too bad. Besides, like I say, it's a big yard. But the best thing is this cement pond they've got inside the house! They take me swimming in it a couple times a week and then they give me a bath with a special shampoo made 'specially for dogs like me. I've got lots of toys that I keep in a big old pickle crock and I have lots of fun getting my things out of it. Someone I even put them all away, but mostly Sue has to do that for me. It's been so fun that I'm sure looking forward to Christmas. Thanks all for right now! -Tucker |

Prince (now Rufus)
|
Just wanted to give you a long overdue update on Rufus, AKA the Dog Formerly
Known as Prince. He has a symbol that he uses instead of his name but I
can't make it with the computer. As you can see form the attached photo, Rufus has settled in rather well with our cats. The cat in the picture, Carmel, is especially fond of him. She used to do that with the German Shepherd that I had as well. Rufus is also great with our new baby, Isabella. He likes to come over and sniff the top of her head when we hold her. He's so gentle, it's just great! He also likes to crawl into my lap if I've been holding Isabella and then hand her to my wife. We had Rufus in an obedience class. He did very well. The instructor said that he was an "Einstein." My wife and I are withholding judgment on that for now. Rufus loves visiting his grandparents because they take him out for about 5 or 6 walks a day. We sometimes take him there if we know we are going to work late. Since we didn't know his birthday we gave him December 8 so he just celebrated his 3rd birthday. This weekend we are going to order food one night and get Rufus his own hamburger as a little present. Hope you enjoy the picture. -Dave and Tracy |

Meg
|
Just sending a picture of our 10 year son sleeping next to our beloved
"Meg". Meg has been an absolute delight from the moment we met her. We
thought we were looking for a yellow lab, but we have fallen in love with
the personality of this chocolate lab. Meg is 3 so she came to us with very
good manners!! No chewing on chair legs, no hidden wet surprises as you walk
the house barefoot and no night crying when you're trying to sleep. Don't
let age fool you as she has lots of energy...... that how I keep my trim
figure. She is pretty happy with us as she wags her tail 24/7 as the kids
say. She is doing great on a leash now with just a little practice and did I
mention she learned how to shake in just two days. She is the Queen Bee as I
can't imagine who loves her the most in the family. The most important thing
is she has a family that will keep her forever. Our thanks to Penny, her
foster mom who was there for her when she needed a friend. LEARN is a great
thing and we are so grateful to them for bringing such a special dog into
our lives. -Steve, Kris, Colin, and Cameron |

"Our" little sweetheart Casey is doing just fine! Brian wanted me to tell
you that she is learning to be a good hunter. Patience and guidance by Brian
and Jazz are proving to be beneficial. She has proven to be a wonderful
friend and companion. We all love her to pieces. Thanks again! Love, Paula & Brian Keep up the good work!

Coco (Now Roco)
|
Here are some pictures of Roco (Coco). They were taken a month ago so he's skinnier still. He's lost almost 35 pounds! He's a good dog, and we're so glad to have him. I haven't had a dog in over ten years, and it's nice to come home and have that instant, unconditional affection, happiness and love. Thanks so much. Take care! -Tamara

Sophie
|
Sophie has been with us for just about six months and we thought it was about time to send some pictures and an update of her new life! Sophie has been a wonderful dog since the day we brought her home. She is the perfect age, size, and temperament for us first-time lab owners. She was about a year and a half old when we got her, and she has never messed the house or chewed on anything that wasn't hers. She definitely still has a lot of puppy excitement left in her, but she also enjoys some quiet time by herself. Sophie is a smaller mix (only weighs in at about 40 pounds and comes up about knee-high), which has been a perfect size for us. We took Sophie to a beginning dog obedience class in the spring and she caught on very fast. With a little bit of practice (and lots of treats) she has learned all her basic commands. She still needs a little help controlling her excitement about other dogs and bunnies when we are on walks, but we are continuing to work on that. Sophie lives for her strolls around the neighborhood every morning and evening. She also loves laying in the sun, belly rubs, ice cubes, and has even learned to like her crate (a little peanut butter stuffed in a kong sure made the initial separation anxiety go away quickly). This summer we took her camping up north in Wisconsin - she is such a good traveler. She got to go swimming in a lake for the first time. Although she didn't like it when she swam out too deep, she sure liked bouncing around in the shallow water chasing weeds and anything that would move. Sophie has made our life a little brighter - I'm glad we could do the same for her. Thank you for finding her for us. -Carol and Adam |

Odie
|
(Now Barkley)
Just a short note to let you know how Odie (now Barkley) is doing. He has been with us since the end of March. Barkley has completed 2 dog obedience classes and received his Canine Good Citizen from AKC. He is getting better with his separation anxiety. Barkley celebrated his first birthday with my first grade class at the end of May. The kids just love him. We had to put our Maxwell to sleep in January from cancer - he was 8 ?. I
feel in my heart that We are attaching some pictures to share with you. I hope you enjoy them as much as we love him. Fondly- Joan, Les, and Barkley |

Kimba
|
To Everyone at LEARN: We adopted a 10 year old yellow lab named Kimba from LEARN back in November 2000. While this letter is long overdue, we wanted to write and say thank you so much for Kimba! It wasn't an easy adjustment for her. She had some scary health problems that lead to her being sick a lot of the time, all while recovering from knee surgery and trying to adjust to a new home. But with lots and lots of pampering and TLC, she came through it all just fine. We celebrated her 11th birthday on April 1 and we're determined to have many more birthdays with her. Kimba is the most wonderful dog ever. She has gone from being skittish and withdrawn to being quite the little love-sponge! Even at 11, she can be downright puppyish....bouncing around as much as her back legs will let her. We feel so lucky to have her and can't imagine life without her. I would encourage people to take a chance and adopt an older dog. They have so much love to give and every dog deserves a loving home in their "golden years". It is upsetting to me that people abandon older dogs like Kimba because of their age or health problems....just when their dog needs them most. My only word of caution would be that older dogs can be very expensive and an adoptive family needs to be willing to assume that responsibility as well. So thanks again, not only for Kimba, but also for all the great work your organization does. It makes a difference. Sincerely, -Bridget and Tim (and Kimba) |

Gunther
|
Sorry it has taken so long, but I have made a decision. Paul & Deb have
progressed remarkably in just the last week. They have taken me outside a
lot, and have now introduced me to that collar that beeps when I get too
close to the road. That's really cool cuz when I'm playing, I don't want to
accidentally run out in front of a car and get smooshed. They're really
looking out for me. Anyway, I really like Tioga, he's fun to play with, and I think he likes me too. I don't know about Tami though, because she just lays around until Ti and I play too close to her. Then she growls and walks away. I'd hate to let Ti down though, by choosing another family. I've signed up Paul & Deb to start obedience training classes Mon. eve. I hope they are fast learners. I'll address the adoption paperwork and costs in the coming weeks. I have to get a loan from Paul & Deb to cover the adoption fee. My day job doesn't pay too well. Meanwhile, please be assured that I am pretty confident in my decision to stay here. I really am looking forward to spring because there's lot's of mud to track in on Deb's wood floor. She gives me lot's of attention when I do that. She must really like to wipe up mud! Well, that's all for now. I need to get a drink of water so I can give Paul and Deb a big slimy wet kiss before we go to bed. They get so excited when I do that. Say Hi to my friends at L.E.A.R.N., Gunnie |

Daphne (Willow)
|
LEARN, We would like to thank everyone who helped us find Willow (formerly Daphne). We adopted her on July 22, 2001 and we have fallen in love! She is a wonderful, friendly dog and as you can see from her pictures, is adapting to her new home very well. She has a lot of toys to play with (she's a little spoiled) and she LOVES water!! A special thanks to her foster mom Pat for all the information and for taking such good care of her. Sincerely, Joe and Kiersten

Scout
|
What can I say? Scout is one of the best things that ever happened to our
family. She is the absolute sweetest and most loving dog that I have ever
met. She was going to be put down due to the fact that she has hip dysplasia
and the family could not afford the surgery. The shelter called L.E.A.R.N
and said they had too special of a dog to be put down and could someone come
and save her? And thanks to foster mom JoAnne Scout was saved! Our family
was matched up perfectly by Jan and I can't thank L.E.A.R.N. enough. Scout had her first hip surgery and spay about a week after joining our family. It went wonderfully. She has made a remarkable recovery. Her next hip surgery is scheduled for August 29th. We have been taking two twenty minute walks daily and Scout has made many new doggie/human friends in the neighborhood. Her favorite toys are hard roll bones and round ring rawhide chewies (always supervised). She loves chunky peanut butter and thinks ice cubes are treats. Lives for car rides and belly love rubs. We can't imagine life without her. We are so blessed. Thank you God and L.E.A.R.N! |

Shelby
|
I wanted to send you an update on how things are
going. Shelby knows that she is home for good! We just love her.
Shelby and our daughter are always together weather its playing or sleeping ( I don't think Shelby can get any closer to Vicki when they are sleeping because Shelby needs to be right up against her). It is so funny to watch them play with Shelby's "Jolly Ball". Shelby will do flips in the air until you throw the ball and when you tell her to sit she will do a little dance with just her two front feet. All the dogs get along very well. We have made much improvement with walking with a leash. Shelby doesn't pull as much. We bought a harness, I don't like the choker collars at all. I'm sending you a picture of Shelby. That's it for now. Thank you, - Cathy

Petey
|
"Here is a picture of Petey. I hope you can tell that he has settled in and made himself at home. It's been about 5 1/2 months since I adopted Petey. We still have a few things to work on, but I have to say he's definitely worth it. He really is a sweet boy, and he's very anxious to give and get love. Petey makes me laugh a lot- he's definitely a big goof! He's made lots of friends in the neighborhood, and he gets so excited when he runs into people and dogs that we know during a walk. The nicest thing for me has been watching the changes in Petey. When I first adopted him, walks could be difficult. Petey was so nervous, he would constantly bump into me. He was so busy looking over his shoulder and being cautious, that he wasn't looking where he was going. Now, he walks like he owns the place, He's much more confident and much less fearful of noises and strange people. Petey has also come to understand that when I leave the house, I will be coming back. In fact, he's so in love with the peanut butter stuffed kong that I leave him, that I think a part of him cant wait until I actually walk out the door. He also let me out of his sight when I'm home. He stays close by, but doesn't follow me from room to room anymore like he first did. Thanks so much for the great work you do. I check with your web site every few days. I love seeing the dogs that you rescue, and love seeing that big red ADOPTED by their pictures! I'm so glad I found your organization and I'm glad that you found Petey!" - Ronnie |

Lady Jane
Here's "Lucy" with her adoring owners Kristy and Patti at a local Humane Society fundraiser.
|
(Now Lucy) We adopted Lucy (formerly Lade Jane) on February 5, 2001, after she raised a litter of eight puppies. She was an outside farm dog who now needed to find a home for herself. Thanks to a wonderful LEARN volunteer, we were introduced to Lucy and right then and there we knew we would share our home and our future with her. Lucy is an incredibly smart dog, and she has changed so much in these last few months. Her confidence is growing, and she is learning that being petted and touched is one of the very best parts of being a dog! She has a complicated personality, unlike any dog I've every met or owned. A lot goes on beneath her wagging tail. We often wonder about her past just like most people who adopt an older dog. We feel it was not a place of love. But now she has two wonderful owners who adore her. She has a soft bed, toys, and a FOREVER HOME! We couldn't be happier! -Kristy and Patti |

Teddy and Scooter
|
(Formerly Teddy and Scooter, "the Yellow Girls") Teddy and Scooter are now named Sadie and Keva. The girls have worked out their differences with one cat, and I am sure they will come to terms with the other (she the cat is a bit skittish so the dogs find that intriguing.) Keva went to her first obedience class last night and did quite well. Sadie goes on Wednesday. We have been doing lots of walks. They get tired kind of easily, but I think are building up endurance. The girls and I are getting in shape. Their weight is about the same (I weigh them at obedience class) but they are a bit trimmer. This is them today at the dog park out near our home.

Thunder
|
Greetings from Thunder! I just HAD to let you see the picture that was taken of me 2 days ago. I have gotten so big that my owners had to expand my cage. I love it here in my new home and my owners take great care of me. I have made friends with everyone and their pets in the neighborhood. My favorite is a yellow lab named Ruby. She lives on the next block and she is 3 years old. She is my best friend because she is the only one that has as much energy as I do. Shadow and Charky live next to me and I go visit everyday but they just like to lay there so I just go poop in their yard and their owners give me treats. Everyday I go for 2 walks only about 6 blocks because my doctor said no long walks until I am 1 year old because my bones are growing. I am still working on being house broken. My owners take me out enough that I have only had a couple accidents. I want you to know that I have discovered the hose and love water play. When the sprinkler gets put out in the yard I go crazy. My owners really love me. My favorites are Roberta and Christopher. Every night I put Christopher to bed but soon it looks like he will have to find another place to sleep because I take up most of his bed. Not really, when Roberta and Rod go to bed I go in my own cage and stay their till my stomach awakens me at 5:00 am. You take care and thank you for my new family. I love it here, and they love me very, very much.

Mercy and Indy
|
Mercy (now "Harley") was an approximately 10 year-old male, neutered yellow Labrador fostered by L.E.A.R.N. from a shelter. He was doing a self-destruct on some allergy-induced hot spots. Indy was the roughly 8 year-old female, spayed black lab-greyhound cross with mammary masses who was rescued from a shelter. She had been slated for euthanasia due to space limitations at the shelter. Besides, who would adopt an old mixed breed dog with tumors? After the demise of our beloved Kana and |
|
|
Midori (13 and 11 1/2- year old Rotties, respectively) from cancer,
Joe and I felt ready to provide a home to another canine senior citizen.
We expressed an interest in Harley and set up an appointment to meet him with the L.E.A.R.N volunteers. Indy was brought along just to switch foster homes if Harley's foster space should become vacant. Joe had reminded me that we were only going to consider one dog initially. Wouldn't you know it, about five minutes after meeting Indy with Harley, and seeing how nicely they got along, Joe announced that he wouldn't mind at all taking both dogs! After a week of settling in, Indy had surgery to remove the masses. They were malignant, but it appears the cancerous tissue was successfully removed. Indy healed and is now enjoying obedience training during her walks. She is bright, enthusiastic and will patiently try anything asked of her for a bit of hotdog. Indy is also comical, as she enjoys playing with her toys with her hindquarters standing while her forequarters are wrapped around the toy. Harley's hotspot is healing now that his allergies are being treated. He has proven to be a confirmed housedog and will literally run to the lower level of the house rather than go outside in drizzling rain. When we were reading in the sunshine and tried to coax him into the backyard with us, Harley would peer suspiciously with only his head out the sliding glass doorway as if saying, "I don't know- it's awfully outdoorsy out there!" Given that Harley's pre-rescue history included three months of wandering around the Sheboygan countryside, we usually give in to his reluctance to go outside. Both dogs display excitement at walk-time yet walk very pleasantly on lead. As they love car-rides, we take them with us whenever possible. Finally, both dogs lean on their humans or "loom" for affection and it always works! Acquiring a dog through a rescue organization has worked beautifully for us, because a rescuing foster family gets to know the pet well, how he/she behaves with other dogs, children and cats, etc. We also highly recommend adopting a canine adult or senior citizen. Why not give a dog a chance to finish his life in a loving home, possibly the only one he'll ever have? True, it seems impossible to change the sad statistics of pet over-population through the adoption of one pet, but it matters to that one. - Erica and Joe

Jack
|
Dear L.E.A.R.N., I adopted Jack on May 26th. From the moment I brought him home he was very comfortable. There were no difficulties in the transition from his foster home to his new home. He is great with my 2 and 3 year old nephews and their dog- a black lab. He is very friendly with everyone but he rarely ever leaves my side. I take him everywhere I go and he rides very well in the car. At night he sleeps on the floor beside my bed and doesn't leave until I get up in the morning. I couldn't ask for a better friend. Freddy
|
(Now Buddy) "Hi my name use to be Freddy. (Remember, I was the good looking one!) Now my name has changed to Buddy and I am still good looking. I will tell you how I met my new family and how I got my name. One day I decided to go on an unsupervised stroll through the neighborhood I came to rest at a school and I was found by a staff member named Pam, well Pam knew that there was a person who is a staff member at this school who loves labs his name is Ron. I walked in his office and I saw this big smile on Ron's face and the first thing he said to me is "Hey Buddy!" and that is how I got my name. Ron looked on my tag and he called the number and they contacted my foster dad at the time, he came to school and told Ron all about L.E.A.R.N., and that I was in need of a home. So Ron asked if I could come home with him and meet the family. I liked his family and within 2 weeks I came home to my new family. I really enjoy having the run of the house with Lady (my doggie sister) and I am glad there is an organization like L.E.A.R.N that rescued me and gave me a second chance special thank you to Mindy who took me home from the beginning when I was left at a shelter. My new family said I would have it good and I really do I go for walks I lay in the yard getting a suntan with lady and I get to play with 2 boys. PS- Buddy really turned out to be Ron's buddy he follows him everywhere and he loves to go for a car ride with his head out the window with Lady. Thanks again LEARN!!!!!!! - Ron, Mary, Joey, Andy and Lady |

Boots
|
(Now Timmy) "We wanted to let you know how Timmy (Boots) is doing, but he's kept us pretty busy since we got him back in January. First off, we'd just like to say that we couldn't be happier with him! For the first couple of months that we had him, he was terrified of other dogs. We starting taking him to a pet store that has an indoor play area and has "puppy play time" for an hour every Sunday. For the first month, he was very timid and wouldn't go near any of the other puppies. Then we started our puppy kindergarten class and every since then, he wants to play with any dog that he sees. He's done really well with his training outside of class, but when he gets around other puppies, all of that training kind of goes out the window. He's learned to jump up onto the windowsill in our front window and loves to sit there and watch as people and dogs go by. When the weather started to get better here a couple of weeks ago, we started to take him to some of the area off leash dog parks. He's decided that he really likes the water. He heads straight for any water that he sees and splashes around close to the shore. He loves chasing other dogs around, but is pretty good about coming whenever he is called and rarely ventures out too far away from us. We got him one of those small children's swimming pools for the backyard and that's usually the first place he heads whenever he's let out into the backyard. He's 60 pounds now and just keeps growing. (Our vet seems to think that he's going to end up between 80 and 100 pounds!) Thanks for the WONDERFUL puppy!" - George & Meme |

Captain
|
(Now Madison) "We just wanted to let you know how lucky we are to have found your organization and our new addition to the family. We adopted Captain (now known as Madison, after the town where he was fostered in). He is the best thing that ever happened to this family. he has excellent manners, superb disposition, and he is cuddly and sweet! Everyone who meets him falls instantly in love with him and then of course this gives me an opportunity to tell people about the wonderful organization, LEARN. He particularly attracts attention as he only has 3 legs. However, this handicap adds to his awesome good looks and sparkling personality. he is quite skilled at going up and down the stairs, getting on the beds for cuddle time, and racing around the parks chasing us and playing ball. He gets plenty of attention and he's sure to let us know how much her loves us. He loves his long walks (about 3 a day!) He is a very happy guy and we are a very happy family. Thanks again for all that you do for Labradors!" -The Abels

Trax
|
Trax, a Labrador mix, was found in a box on the railroad tracks in Wisconsin
when she was about 8 weeks old. A foster family went to go pick her up and
take her back home. The foster mom brought the puppy into her husband's
workplace, where a coworker saw Trax and it was love at first sight! The
rest is history.
One of the first nights in her new home, Trax accompanied her new Dad as he went snowplowing. She now goes with him almost every time. Trax now has a great loving home and has learned lots of new tricks. She loves her new Dad as much as he loves her. This is just another great example of how rescue groups help save the lives of voiceless animals who otherwise may have had tragic outcomes. It is also a great example of how these rescued animals can improve the lives of their new owners with all the love and devotion they have to give. |

Rosie
|
Back in Nov of 2000 my good friend volunteered to take in a pregnant Lab
that was picked up as a stray and living at a shelter. My friend named her
Rosie because of her very sweet "rosy" temperament. Five days
after being rescued, Rosie had 5 puppies- 2 boys & 3 girls. I went over
to see the puppies the day they were born & instantly fell in love with
Rosie. She was such a sweetheart! I don't know how anyone could not be
missing her. I went home that very night & applied to adopt Rosie. I was
a very frequent visitor & sat there for hours on end watching the
puppies & just being with Rosie.
It took awhile due to the puppies, but I was finally able to adopt Rosie in Jan 2001. Rosie came to live with me, Mindy (my other rescued Lab), and 3 cats. I have learned first hand that this rescue was not without it's ups & downs. Even though Rosie tested heartworm negative, she was loaded with fleas & later diagnosed with Sarcoptic Mange along with all of her puppies. But L.E.A.R.N. took care of everything including Rosie's spaying. Rosie is now named Bella Rosa, has a new sister Mindy & even the cats accepted Rosie far quicker that I had expected they would, she has a warm, cozy, home, sleeps right next to me with her head on my shoulder, has plenty of food & even a lake to go swimming in come the warmer weather. AND she's learning to play - yes Bella Rosa didn't know how to play or give kisses! How sad is that? It's not just Rosie's life that has greatly improved, but mine & Mindy's also! Rosie is the sweetest girl and the 2nd best thing that has come into my life, (sorry, but Mindy WAS the first!) THANK-YOU L.E.A.R.N. for taking Rosie into your rescue program & for approving "us" to adopt her. Thanks also for finding all 5 of her puppies great new "forever" families." - Marianne, Mindy, Bella Rosa, Roho, Dolce & Sam |

Louie
|
"Just a quick note to thank all of the fine people at LEARN for
helping us find our wonderful Louie (Louie was featured on LEARN's referral
page.)
"In early December of 2000, my husband Steve & I mourned the loss of our wonderful friend - a Gordon Setter / Black lab mix named Bandit, who passed away at the age of 11.5 years. We were absolutely heart broken (as was his little brother Max - our 9.5 year old yellow lab.) Max was extremely lonely, and we too knew that there was a hole in our heart - and had lots of love to share with a dog looking for a permanent home. "Through your wonderful website, we were able to find our Louie - a 2 yr old black lab / golden retriever mix. Louie is an absolute delight (definitely a momma's boy.) He & Max are inseparable - he is part of our family. Thank you LEARN for the kindness you show to all of god's creatures - both man & dog. "To anyone considering adopting a dog, please consider adopting an adult dog. They make wonderful companions, have so much love to share - and will thank you everyday of their lives for saving & loving them. Our deepest thanks." - Steve & Amy "Attached - a picture of Louie with his brother Max; A picture of Louie helping me with the laundry; and a picture of Louie with his new family at Christmas." |

Organization ever, L.E.A.R.N. I was fostered by my foster mom for the first
eight weeks of my life where I learned how to socialize with people and then
I went onto my forever home. Believe me when I say I have the best home in
the world.
I live with my human mom Pat, and my human brother and sister Matt and Erin. They think they adopted me, but in reality, I adopted them. They keep telling me that I fit right in, it was meant to be and love at first sight. As you can see in this picture, I am the brightest Star in the house." - Star |

Rocky
|
"Here is a recent picture of Rocky. He was the cute little puppy I
picked up to foster in July. We decided to adopt him, as he was too cute to
give up! He is spoiled rotten, just like his 3 brothers. He and Ziggy, the
other rescue/foster we adopted, are quite a pair! Ziggy is only about 7
months older than Rocky, and 2 pups in the house can be quite a challenge.
Rocky was only about 6 weeks old when I picked him up, He loves to tease
JACK, our old man (13 years old in April), but Jack gives it right back to
him. I think these 2 pups are keeping Jack young. Rocky LOVES to dig, and
even with all the snow we have had, he has dug a hole in the frozen
ground!
Toby is trying to teach him the 'correct' way to retrieve the morning paper! (Rocky wants to check everything else out first, then MAYBE he will get the paper, if he feels like it.)" - Helen |

Angel (Maggie)
|
"Please see the attached picture of our new found love Maggie, formerly known as Angel. We renamed Maggie because we felt the real Angel was the contact from LEARN that we worked with, Maggie. She helped match our family with the perfect dog, and took time to learn about our family lifestyle. We appreciate everything she has done for us, and refer your adoption agency to all of our friends. My husband and I are so happy to have such a beautiful, energetic little girl. She has brought so much excitement to our lives, and we look forward to learning something new everyday from her. Maggie has also taught us that patience is a virtue! Maggie gets very excited when she sees her brothers, the cats, and is learning that she is not to chase them. She wants to play with them so bad, she brings her toys by the cats bedroom, and leaves them by the door for them to play with. At times she gets a little jealous of them, but knows she has to share her Mommy and Daddy's love. Maggie's favorite toy is her Kong, she loves running around in the back yard fetching it. She loves going for walks and looking for the neighborhood lab friends that she has! We think Maggie has made more friends in our neighborhood then we have! We will keep you updated on Maggie's progress, thank you for everything." - Maggie's New Family |

Aston (Austyn)
Al, Austyn and Ryan wait for the school bus.
Ryan and his new best bud, Austyn. |
"Austyn (previously Aston) is doing great. He has quickly become a member of our family and stolen our hearts. Austyn has been a great dog! Ryan has become very attached to him and Mark (our nineteen year old) rally enjoys playing with him and is impressed by his good nature and how well he listens. We have enjoyed playing ball, going for walks and learning to share space on the couch or bed. Austyn is a real lover and appears to be happy in his new home. Austyn still misses Largo, the puppy in his foster home, but seems to be content as long as he can be with one of us. Maybe we could consider a playmate for Austyn once we get a feel for this "doggie parenthood!" Thank you for providing such a wonderful service to unite special dogs with the right families. A very special thanks to Paulette and David for being such great foster parents and sharing so much of their time and hearts with Austyn and giving us so much good information and advise. Enjoy the pictures!" - Tammy, Al and the Boys |

Morgan
|
One morning, the staff at a small town veterinary clinic found a gorgeous chocolate Labrador tied up to their front door, obviously abandoned by her owner. The veterinary staff tried and tried to find her a new home, but finally called LEARN for help. While in foster care, it was noticed that Morgan had a severe limp. It
turned out to be a badly injured right knee. This required expensive
reconstructive surgery that LEARN simply could not afford. Morgan was just
so cheerful, gentle, and sweet, she had already endeared herself to her
foster family. So LEARN applied to LABMED
for help in funding the surgery. After a successful surgery and recovery period, Morgan was quickly
adopted by Bobbie and Mark. She is the apple of their eye! She'll never be
abandoned again! |

Ditka (Draco)
|
"Here's a picture of one of your rescued dogs. His name is Draco (used to be Ditka), and we adopted him in May. He did really well in obedience class over the past summer. (His friend Rollo, the yellow lab in this picture, was a rescued dog too!) Draco still has some "attitude" when walking on a leash, but he's smart and we continue to train him. We want to commend you on your rescue efforts. I'm amazed every day that people gave both these guys up. We LOVE 'em!" - Diane and Ben |

Violet (Bella)
|
"Hi- I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas. Sorry this is late, but my mom just found the Polaroid in a closet and thought you might like to see how I look now. (I don't like these cameras...my mom can't get me to sit still. I smelled it, but I still don't like it.) As you can see, I still haven't lost any weight, but I love all the great smells in my house. When mom makes lunches, I get some lettuce, tomato, apples and a little bread. Tuesday Jonathan was playing the in the snow with me and I knocked him over. My mom calls me a little black bowling ball. I just put my head down and rammed him from behind. I wanted to give him a kiss but he got up before I got a chance." -Bella (formerly Violet) and Family |

Shadow
|
"About Shadow - he is absolutely wonderful. We can't understand how anyone could have given him up. He has obviously been well loved. But we are certainly glad they did it. He is working out nicely. He is such a joy, we want to thank you again for helping him to find us. Take a look at the attached photo - he no longer chases the cats - well not all of them. Have a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!" - Jackie
