First, complete an adoption application. This tells us about your daily routine and the environment you would provide a Lab. LEARN will send you an email to acknowledge receipt of emailed applications. After your application is received, one of our volunteers will call to schedule a home visit during which they will discuss the adoption process and your preferences and expectations.
Once you are an “approved adopter” our volunteers will begin matching your preferences with our foster dogs’ needs. Finding the best match may take a couple days or several months. This process may take a long time, depending on your preferences and flexibility. The more flexible you are, the faster the matching process. Some things affecting this time frame are:
- The number of Labs in foster.
- The geographical location of the potential adoptive family in relationship to the Lab’s foster home.
- Your preferences as to of what type of Lab you are looking for (Example: “I prefer a Chocolate male, well trained, at least two years old who is good with cats”).
