Yellow Jake LAB 2175

UPDATE:
Jake is in the final stages of recovery from heartworm!  He is doing great as he is getting healthier.  Jake is mostly a quiet dog, but there are also times when he loves to run in the backyard or play with his sister.  He absolutely loves going for walks and riding in the car.  He is working on his manners, but may benefit from taking a class or two once he finds a forever home.  Jake is becoming more comfortable being home alone, but he is happiest when people are around.  He gets along well with other dogs and has great manners when he meets new people.  Jake is a wonderful dog who would love to find his forever home soon!

UPDATE!

Hello everyone!

It has been 2 weeks since Jake started receiving treatment for heartworm. Yesterday he went back to the vet for a check-up and he continues to be getting better. The vet stated that he seems to have gotten through the worst of it, and just needs to stay quiet for a few more weeks. We are already beginning to see glimpses of a healthy and active Jake and look forward to seeing him in action when he is fully recovered!

He also has been working hard on his manners (sitting before the door opens, waiting for his food, recall, etc). He still has a bit to learn, but he is trying and continuing to make progress. Jake is an absolutely sweet dog. He does not jump or bark and is very affectionate.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My name is Jake. I am a 3 yr. lab and am a typical young lab. I have a little bit of training under my collar but would like to go to school to have better obedience skills. I am living with other dogs and cat and I love them all. I came from a family who had children. One of my favorite things to do is to get in bed in the morning with my foster Mom and snuggle.
I was surrendered to L.E.A.R.N. because I have heartworms. Because of this I will have to be in foster care for a couple of months. We had to search out a vet who has the medicine to treat the heart worms because there is a shortage of the drug used to treat them. I am going in for treatment on Monday so keep me in your thoughts. They actually shoot the medicine into my heart to kill the worms. Then I will not be allowed any exercise at all for several weeks to allow my body to absorb the dead worms. If I run around there is a chance that the worms can break loose and travel to my lungs causing possibly respiratory failure and death. Once I get past the treatments then I have to wait a few months to be neutered.
My foster Mom will send updates in a couple of weeks so you can follow my progress. Any help you can give to offset the costs of my medication would really be great and I will be sure to include you in my very own doggie list of thanks.
Lots of labbie kisses,
Jake
