Bosco, a beautiful 6 yo yellow male is an owner surrender who loves to snuggle, take long walks, ride in the car, and go wherever it is that you are going. He is not big on playing fetch, but loves to wrestle his 5 yo foster fur-brother and chase the other dogs when they play fetch.
He is wonderfully well behaved off leash, checking in often when walking in the woods. Bosco’s previous owner took him on hunting trips; he did real well but is not a hunter, he just loves the walk. I would classify him as a medium energy dog who will settle extremely well once in the house and will make one heck of great companion dog. He is crate trained, great on the leash, has no fear of our barn cats or farm animals, has no fear of the vacuum, is great when strangers come to the door (he has not barked to alert that someone is there – i.e. he doesn’t believe he is in charge of anything), and doesn’t jump on people. He much prefers not to be an Alpha dog. He has never been an only dog in a household or rarely been left alone for long periods of time so there is no history of his behavior in those situations.
Currently Bosco rushes doors when they are opened but is doing nicely on learning not to. He is also quite the vocal boy, not necessarily barking, but whining. And not an obnoxious whine, just a bunch of doggie sentences running together clearly identifying what his current emotional state is. We all think it is hilariously cute but are currently teaching him what “shhhh….” means. Though he doesn’t exhibit this behavior all the time, it is nice to be able to quiet him if necessary, like when the phone rings!
Bosco has been diagnosed with hypothyroidism. He is on daily medication that effectively controls it. He will need to be on this for life. He has had past issues with his ears and vigilant cleaning and a supply of Tri-Otic Ointment should keep that in check.
Bosco tells me he would love to be a companion dog for someone who loves to go for lots of walks!
