Nicki

Tonite is the first night without Nicki (05/29/09).  It is very difficult.

Nicki came to live with us at age 6 in April of 2006.  She met us, jumped in the car, and “belonged” immediately.  There were a few bumps in the road but none so big.  She had many more good qualities.  Always the first one out the door, up the stairs, and to the food.  But never did she (ever) get on a piece of furniture.  Even when invited.  The picture I (attached) is typical of her frequent smiles.  She was really happy to live here, and was a good reminder of both of our imperfections–and strength of spirit and determination.

Nicki began having seizures about 2 months ago.  Two weeks ago she had four in one day.  She clearly had some kind of brain trouble.  Meds helped the seizures, but totally zombied her out and did not help the underlying problem.  After some huge struggles on both of our parts, I decided today that we needed to stop struggling.  Some very kind urgent care people helped to sort it out and gently say goodbye.  I will miss her terribly–as will my other dog and cat.

Thank you LEARN for a good friend who got to live an extra 3+ years because of rescue.  I wish we had more years.

Sadly, Charlene (and Sam and Kit)
